Since the announcement of the “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” concert movie, Malaysian Swifties have been wondering if the movie will be screening in local cinemas with both Golden Screens Cinemas (GSC) and TGV Cinemas stating that they were working on getting the screening rights.

It looks like the work and manifestation paid off as both companies announced that the highly-anticipated movie will be released very soon but the screening wasn’t the only thing fans were shocked about.

Earlier today (Friday, 13th October), GSC and TGV Cinemas announced on their social media pages that the “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” will be screening in local cinemas on 3rd November. While TGV hasn’t released much details, GSC has shared that movie tickets will go on sale on 18th October at 12pm.

While most Swifties were over the moon after the announcement was made, many were also perplexed by the ticket prices. As seen in the screenshots above, GSC announced that the normal price for the movie is RM65 (for all GSC locations) while the Aurum Theatre ticket starts from RM155.

Many left comments asking if they would receive official merchandise after purchasing the movie tickets while others lamented about how pricey the tickets are, saying that they’d rather just wait till the movie comes out on a streaming service like Netflix.

The prices have also left us wondering about past concert movie ticket prices. For your information, the ticket prices for BTS’s SUGA (민윤기)’s “Agust D TOUR ‘D-DAY’ in JAPAN: LIVE VIEWING” back in May were RM180 and RM300 (Aurum) while NCT Dream (엔씨티 DREAM)’s “NCT DREAM THE MOVIE: In A DREAM” last year costs RM40. Back in 2018, BTS’s “Burn The Stage: The Movie” was about RM30 per ticket.

In comparison to SUGA’s live concert screening, RM65 may not be that bad, considering it is a special concert movie screening but it’s evident that ticket prices for concert movies have gone up over the years especially when there’s a lot of hype around it. With all that being said though, will you be watching Taylor Swift’s movie on the big screen?
