Malaysian rapper Namewee (黃明志) is known to make headlines, usually for controversial issues. Earlier this year, the artist’s concert in Taiwan went viral as it apparently featured some shirtless male dancers wearing large dildos. If he were to pull a performance like that in Malaysia, his show would definitely be cancelled immediately.
Speaking of cancelled shows, the entertainer just shared that the legal case against the organiser who cancelled his Kuala Lumpur concert back in 2019 is now in full swing. Here are the details:
To recap, a few years back, Namewee was supposed to have his “4896 – Final Call” World Tour concert at Axiata Arena on 31st December 2019. However, it was later announced that the highly-anticipated show was cancelled, just weeks before the show day. The cancellation led to a messy dispute between the hip-hop star and the concert organiser with the latter filing a RM10 million lawsuit against the former.
3 years after the incident, the local artist posted on Facebook yesterday (Tuesday, 5th September) to share his thoughts on the defamation trial which started on the same day at the Kuala Lumpur High Court. “We are here for those who have gone through hardships with us and those who pursue fairness and justice. We are fighting against the rich and powerful, just like small shrimps fighting against a big Shark,” he wrote.
The 40-year-old added that while his opponent may be powerful, he will not give up to fight for his innocence. He ended his post by thanking his fans for their continuous support. Many of his fans left comments on his post to wish him good luck in winning the court case.
At the time of writing, there have been no updates regarding the defamation trial between Namewee and the concert organiser. We’re definitely curious to see how this story will end.
