Oh boy, it looks like some things are just not meant to be. Namewee (黃明志)’s highly-anticipated concert has been axed.

Concert organiser StarPlanet (星艺娱乐) made the official announcement just moments ago via social media. The 36-year-old entertainer’s “4896 – Final Call” World Tour in Kuala Lumpur was supposed to take place at the end of the year, on 31st December 2019.

Not much has been revealed about what led to the cancellation except that there was a falling out between 2 or more parties and they couldn’t reach a mutual consensus. “We do sincerely express our apology for this cancellation which was not at all anticipated. Any convenience which this may have caused to you is much regretted,” the organiser wrote in a press statement.

As at time of writing, the Malaysian Chinese hip hop recording artist (real name Wee Meng Chee) has yet to release any statement of his own. But if you know him well enough, rest assure that he will speak out. Hopefully, he’ll be able to provide fans with a better understanding on the situation at hand.

For those who are/were curious about his potential set list, here’s a good hint:

It’s unfortunate that this concert won’t come to pass, especially since Namewee himself has expressed how much he’s been wanting to carry out a full blown concert for local fans on home soil.

For those seeking a refund, here are the details:

1. A full refund will be reimbursed to all ticket purchasers.

2. Only tickets purchased through official Sales Channels will be honoured a refund.

3. The refund process will start from 23.12.2019 onwards:

(a) If you have purchased ticket(s) via Internet, the refund amount will be automatically credited to the credit/debit card used to make the purchase. The refund will take within 14-30 days to be reflected in a customer’s account.
(b) If you have purchased ticket(s) through authorised outlets or via Star Planet, you will receive an email with a Refund Authorisation form before 16 Dec 2019. You are required to fill in the form and return it to the sender to proceed with the refund. Refund will be by “Bank-in through cheque”.

Update (Monday, 16th December 2019):

If you have some time to spare, here are a few videos that may shed some light on what’s going on behind-the-scenes:

Update (Wednesday, 18th December 2019):

There has been a lot of back and forth over the past few days. Despite Star Planet opting to pull out from Namewee’s 31st December countdown concert, Malay Mail has reported that the show will go on.

“Wee Meng Chee 4896 Final Call New Year countdown concert is still on! Those who (have) yet to get the tickets please support!” the controversial rapper wrote. Tickets are available here.
