It appears Namewee (黄明志) has some good news to celebrate. Nearly eight months after his drug charges first emerged, the Magistrate’s Court has finally acquitted the Malaysian singer of all charges.
On 14th May 2026 (Thursday), Namewee appeared at the Petaling Jaya Magistrate’s Court for what would likely be the final hearing on his two drug-related charges. To recap, the singer, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, was previously charged with drug use and drug possession following his arrest at a hotel in Jalan Conlay in October 2025. However, he was cleared of drug use charges after his pathology test results came back negative.

Namewee also pleaded not guilty to the drug possession charge. Last month, the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) rejected his first representation to withdraw all the drug-related charges. However, the AGC later accepted the singer’s second representation. During yesterday’s court hearing, Magistrate Khairunnisak Hassni gave the order of discharge and acquittal after confirmation from the prosecutors.
Besides his acquittal, Namewee also sparked interest after appearing in court in a wheelchair. Through his Instagram Stories, he explained that he injured his leg days before the court date. The singer noted that he tried to walk on his own because he didn’t want to face accusations of seeking sympathy, but ultimately decided to use the wheelchair. He quipped, “If I’m going to be criticised whether I stand or sit, I’d rather be criticised when I’m seated. It’s more comfortable.”

Fans have reacted to Namewee’s acquittal, expressing joy over the news. Meanwhile, the singer remains a suspect in the murder of Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh (谢侑芯). The case is still under investigation.
