Update: For the full list of areas affected, visit here.

Over a million people living in Klang Valley will have their water supply disrupted over the next four days.

1.2 million account holders will experience dry taps as a result of the industrial effluent pollution at Sungai Selangor. This will certainly cause great inconvenience to many people.

The water supply was affected because pollution is still being detected near the plants with a pollution reading of 1 ton this morning, FMT reported. Water supply will only resume when the Threshold Odour Number (TON) reaches to zero, three times, says Air Selangor chief executive officer, Suhaimi Kamaralzaman.

“Currently, it is still at 1 TON. But we are hopeful, since the number dropped from 3 TON yesterday. My concern is that (not) everyone understands the magnitude of the problem. We are taking this seriously. It is not fair to consumers to get smelly water. We want clean water to get to the consumer. Their health and safety is paramount to Air Selangor,” he said during a press conference today.

Selangor has closed down and impounded a factory responsible for the pollution in Sungai Selangor, which disrupted water supply to 1.2 million consumers in the Klang Valley.
