Renowned Hong Kong actor Tony Leung (梁朝伟) is a formidable figure in the international film industry. However, there are times when the award-winning star has shown his unexpectedly adorable side to his fans.
The actor was recently at the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) 2025 to promote his new movie, “Silent Friend”. The movie, directed by Hungarian filmmaker Ildikó Enyedi, marks Tony’s first European production. During the film festival, the star and director held a panel to discuss their new release. However, it was Tony’s adorable antics during the event that captured netizens’ attention.

One XiaoHongShu user who attended the panel pointed out that during the event, Tony was secretly showing heart gestures to the crowd. In the video posted by the fan, the actor was sitting politely at a table, with his hands on his knees. After flashing a smile to the audience, the actor then secretly gave a “finger heart” from under the table. He also quickly did a half-heart shape with his fans, sparking a wave of excitement from the crowd.
Netizens were amused by the actor’s unexpected fan service, noting how he’s usually very reserved during public appearances. Some also quipped that Tony may have felt comfortable enough during the programme to show his cute side. These comments reference the star’s social anxiety, which he has spoken about in interviews. At the same time, fans also jokingly call him a school student because of how politely he was sitting during the event.

BIFF 2025 is just one of the few events that Tony attended to promote “Silent Friend”. The film premiered at the 2025 Venice International Film Festival earlier this month and won the FIPRESCI Prize. The movie follows a single tree through three loosely connected stories in different eras: 1908, 1972, and 2020. Ildikó Enyedi mentioned that she wrote Tony’s role with the actor specifically in mind.
Perhaps we’ll get to see more of Tony’s adorable side in future promotions and events. In the meantime, check out the clip of the actor from BIFF 2025 and the trailer for “Silent Friend”:
