There’s tons of ways or products we can use to protect ourselves from something. When the Covid-19 virus first broke out, people got creative in how they could protect themselves from the virus. Who can blame them? There wasn’t much info on Covid nor supplies at the time so you have to make do with what you have to keep yourself safe.

Prior to Covid, we have the annual haze and we’ve definitely seen some weird methods people have used to keep the haze away. But here’s a question, how does one protect themselves from the sun? The obvious answer would be to apply sunscreen, correct? Most would apply sunscreen onto their skin before heading out on a hot day, but if sunscreen were drinkable, would you take a sip?

Twitter user @m_iekks tweeted a TikTok video showing a woman apparently consuming drinkable sunscreen. The tweet post was captioned, “something about drinkable sunscreen doesn’t sound like a kidney-friendly thing”. The original video was posted by @sharifah.eleen or Sharifah who regularly post videos of her travels on her TikTok. Both videos on Twitter and TikTok gained almost the same amount of views around 300k views.

Regardless of the social media platform, just like @m_iekks on Twitter, netizens have expressed concerns about how safe is it exactly to be consuming drinkable sunscreen? Some came forward that the term “drinkable sunscreen” is misleading as the product is only a supplement that supposedly acts like an antioxidant that helps the sunscreen that you’ve applied on your skin.

Supplement or not, many seemed to believe that the drinkable sunscreen is harmful to one’s health and that the Tiktoker is falsely advertising the product. Some netizens think it’s a scam and even requested Sharifah to elaborate how the drinkable sunscreen is edible and safe. She claimed that she has done her research for 2 years before releasing the products saying that the ingredients contain only natural ingredients.

After defending the product, the TikToker was asked to share the link to her research to prove to netizens that her sources are reliable and that she’s not selling anything harmful to people. However, she has yet to share the link to her 2 year research.
