It’s contract renewal season for many K-Pop artists, including beloved girl group TWICE (트와이스). However, recent reports suggest that some members may be leaving their longtime agency.
Earlier this week, reports emerged that half of TWICE won’t be renewing their exclusive contracts with JYP Entertainment. News outlets speculated that members Jihyo (지효), Jeongyeon (정연), Chaeyoung (채영) and Tzuyu (쯔위) will part ways with their longtime agency, but will remain in TWICE and continue to participate in group activities. Meanwhile, Nayeon (나연), Momo (모모), Sana (사나), Mina (미나), and Dahyun (다현) are expected to remain with the company.

Previously, Jeongyeon sparked interest after VARO Entertainment confirmed that they had met with the idol amid her contract renewal negotiations with JYP Entertainment. However, regarding an exclusive contract with Jeongyeon, the agency noted that nothing has been decided. It’s worth noting that VARO Entertainment also houses the singer’s older sister, actress Gong Seungyeon.
Chaeyoung has also reportedly met with other agency representatives amid contract renewal negotiations. However, some reports said she plans to expand her career in other areas, notably fashion and art. Meanwhile, Jihyo is reportedly establishing her own agency to manage her solo career. While there were no reports of Tzuyu meeting with other agencies, news outlets nevertheless reported that she is looking to part ways with JYP Entertainment.
JYP Entertainment has commented on the rumours, saying, “TWICE is currently in the period of discussing contract renewals, and we will inform you as soon as matters are finalised.” TWICE debuted in 2015, and all nine members later renewed their contracts for the first time in 2022, extending their tenure with JYP Entertainment. However, some of the members are now likely looking to expand their solo careers and explore new opportunities.

ONCEs (TWICE fans) have also reacted to the reports, expressing concerns about TWICE’s future activities. However, all reports about Jihyo, Jeongyeon, Chaeyoung and Tzuyu’s possible departure from JYP Entertainment have mentioned that they still plan to participate in group activities despite signing with other agencies. Many other K-Pop groups also have members who remain active in group activities despite leaving their companies.
For now, every report about TWICE’s contract renewal remains speculation until JYP Entertainment releases an official statement. What are your thoughts on these reports?
