If you’ve been following ‘So, I’m Jenn (@soimjenn)’ on Instagram for quite some time, you can probably recall Jenn Chia candidly mentioning that her ideal proposal would be at a mamak.
Beau Jon Liddell nailed the assignment when he transformed their living room into a mamak setting that even included the stainless steel mee stall that you see in food courts. It was a throwback to the lovebirds’ first unofficial date in 2014.
“Jenn is about to come home and see all of these. OMG, I’m so nervous guys,” Jon expressed. Jenn’s reaction was priceless when she saw what Jon had done with the space. “For years I didn’t want to get married, and even if I did, I don’t want the proposal to be conventional- no balloons, no big groups, no typical engagement ring,” the content creator extraordinaire later wrote in her Instagram post.
True enough, there was no engagement ring. Instead, the British-born musician got down on one knee and proposed with a Rolex engagement watch. The “menu” that Jon printed out was also filled with puns, such as:
- Will you mamak me?
- I abso-roti love you
- Marry mee goreng
- Please sayur yes
- Teh ‘o’ I Love You
Besties and fellow local content creators Joseph Lee and Maggy Wang also posted their reaction video to Jon’s proposal.
The only thing left to do now is to go congratulate the newly-engaged couple if you haven’t done so 😉
