Fancy eating your meal while being surrounded by fresh flowers in an indoor garden? Of course you do.

These days, the urban crowd is no longer just looking for places that serve good food. It’s all about the whole package: taste, ambience, and a certain je ne sais quoi. So the next time someone ask you, “Where should we eat today?”, suggest a unique dining experience from this list of places.

1. Happ Cafe @ Tropicana Avenue

Source: Becky Wong

Have you ever visited a flower cafe before? If you’re a fan of flowers, coffee, and cakes, then hop over to Happ Cafe at Tropicana Avenue. The 2-storey cafe may be minimalistic in design but there is a flower corner that radiates warmth and joy. The flower bar sells both real and artificial flowers.

Besides that, you can also purchase postcards, stickers, envelopes as well as painting materials. While you’re at it, place your order on their equally attractive meals. Psst, the Camomile Honey Cake (RM16) is simply to die for!

  • Address: P-G-09, Tropicana Avenue, Persiaran Tropicana, 47410 Petaling Jaya
  • Opening Hours: 10am – 11pm (closed on Monday)
  • Tel: 011-28886826
  • Website | Facebook

2. Le Gardenz Café @ Balakong

Le Gardenz Café has flourished over the years thanks to the growing number of loyal customers. Out of all the container cafes that we previously mentioned, Le Gardenz Café stands out because you’ll feel as if you are walking into someone’s garden as the compound is filled with flowers, shrubs, and lots of greenery. The hipster outpost also has an open-air deck that gives you the full view of the surrounding vista. Recommended dishes include chicken skewers, seafood pizza, and pasta dishes.

  • Address: Lot 24646, Jalan KPB 5, Kawasan Perindustrian
Kampung Baru Balakong, 43300 Seri Kembangan
  • Opening Hours: 9:30am – 10pm
  • Tel: 019-3010108

3. Flora Kafe Ampwalk @ Ampang

It’s no wonder Flora Kafe is beautifully decorated with lots of flowers and chandeliers; its founder Razak Ahmad is also a well-known florist and wedding planner. Not only is the ceiling loaded with flowers, but a mini floral arrangement and candles awaits you at your table. Flora Kafe serves traditional Malay cuisines, particularly from the Johor region. We’ve been told that their Pisang Sira is a must try.

Opened last November, The Jungle City Kitchen & Bar is a double-storey eatery with a greenery decoration concept. The Jungle City is the only jungle where you’ll get a combination of great food, service, and environment. Speaking of food, this restaurant offers both local delights and western cuisines.

Besides sampling the freshest seafood, Thai Fish Farm also serves organic vegetables from the restaurant’s vegetable plots. Their signature Thai dishes include steamed siakap (barramundi), snail meat, and grilled crab. Weekends are usually packed with people, so do make it a point to arrive early.

There is hidden gem tucked away on a hilltop that looks across a 16 acres gorgeous verdant garden. Carcosa Seri Negara is a combination of a luxury hotel and also a mansion that serves delectable afternoon tea sessions. England’s Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip previously stayed here during the 1989 Commonwealth, so you know this place is rich with history.

High tea can be enjoyed in the beautiful Victorian-style dining room (The Drawing Room) or outside on the terrace (The Verandah) where you’d be amazed by the flora and fauna in the immediate background. Apart from the standard English Afternoon Tea, a traditional Malay option is also available. Carcosa is a testament to an older way of life – even though you live in a busy city, you can always make time to enjoy nature while enjoying some awesome food.
