Malaysians’ preferences are constantly shifting, especially when it comes to beverages. Recently, a Malaysian posted on Twitter regarding the affordable prices of drinks from a popular store compared to other brands. Many were surprised by the prices, particularly since the brand itself is international.

On Tuesday, 19th September 2024, the popular beverage shop Mixue caught the attention of Twitter users after a netizen, @SyedAkramin, posted a photo of a lemonade drink with the caption, “How come this iced lemonade only costs RM3?”

Despite not relying on expensive marketing strategies like Chagee, Mixue has already climbed the F&B chain ladder, ranking among the top four brands alongside McDonald’s, Subway, and Starbucks. Not only is the iced lemonade cheaper than the aforementioned brands, but the beverage shop’s menu also has Milk Tea Series drinks priced between RM5 and RM7. In comparison to FamilyMart, where beverages range from RM5.20 to RM11.90, it is certainly a cheaper option compared to Tealive, Zus, and Coolblog.

Several netizens praised the brand, noting that its prices are lower compared to local stalls, which charge higher prices for similar quality. Despite the compliments, one user remarked, “I drank at my usual coffee shop, and it only cost RM1.80 per glass.” Another added, “Cheap? I went to a restaurant where the ice lemonade was only RM2.”

While the company has achieved over RM860 million in sales this year, it could be concerning if they raise their prices, following the trend of other costly brands. Nonetheless, we hope Mixue continues to grow and opens more branches in Malaysia, allowing everyone to enjoy delicious drinks at reasonable prices.
