Every candidate must meet certain criteria to be qualified for a job position. Unfortunately, some companies have made it difficult for job seekers to even apply for a job. Previously, a young lady was denied a job vacancy at a Tealive outlet for not being a Malay-Muslim.
Following that recent incident, another woman was shocked when she was told that she is not qualified for a job due to her academic qualification. Here’s what happened:
Recently, a woman who goes by Livia posted screenshots of her conversation with a Mixue staff member on her Facebook page. According to her now-private post, the netizen wanted to inquire about a vacancy as she was applying for a job as a receptionist at the brand’s outlet in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur.
Unfortunately, the 23-year-old was told by the staff that she was not qualified as the dessert company is only hiring degree holders. She then asked for clarification as the job vacancy advertisement stated that the minimum requirement to apply was a diploma, not a degree. She even provided a screenshot as proof.
The Mixue employee claimed that the ad posted is outdated and that they were in the middle of updating it. Unsatisfied with the answer she received, she posted the conversation online. “If you’re planning to apply for a position at Mixue, keep in mind that the minimum requirement to be a receptionist is a degree. So, if you lack one, don’t even dream about getting in because even diploma graduates aren’t qualified for it,” she wrote.
Before going private, the post went viral and caught the attention of the Mixue outlet where the establishment then apologised and offered to give the college graduate a job interview. However, Livia felt that the apology and interview offer was not sincere as they only did so after being called out.
Speaking to local media, the Facebook user said that the staff claimed that it was all just a big misunderstanding. “If they want to do business next time, they should ensure that the job requirements are outlined clearly and carefully,” she said.
