Some people just never learn their lesson. Last year, cosmetics entrepreneur and internet star, Datuk Aliff Syukri was summoned by the Malaysian Communications And Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for his “Kelopok Raya” music video which was deemed inappropriate.

Despite claiming that he was traumatised by the experience, the “Badang” star posted a teaser of his supposed “Love Raya” music video which then resulted in him being summoned by the MCMC again yesterday (Wednesday, 3rd April) in coalition with Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) to give his statement. Here’s what happened:

To recap, a now-deleted short teaser clip was uploaded on his Instagram page which displayed a group of male dancers including the singer, clothed in neon spandex bodysuits while dancing inappropriately. The video went viral soon after, receiving an immediate backlash. The 38-year-old then made a quick video, revealing that it was simply to “celebrate” April Fool’s Day. His statement sparked a debate on both Instagram and Twitter.

It was reported that the entire issue is now being thoroughly investigated under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for offensive content to hurt or disturb others. The notorious celeb’s phone and SIM card have been confiscated for the time being and on top of that, Minister of Communications, Fahmi Fadzil has instructed MCMC to take appropriate actions against the public figure as soon as a statement is taken.

A representative of MCMC stated, “If found guilty, he will be punished with a maximum fine of RM50,000, or serve a maximum of one year jail time, or both.” MCMC also included yesterday they are currently in the works of finalising the documents to be sent to the Attorney’s General Chambers soon.

In light of this issue, the Communications Minister also reminded all influencers and content creators to produce content meticulously considering that the general audience on social platforms are of various ages. Prior to the summon and investigation, Aliff Syukri took to his Instagram once again by posting an official public apology video.

The businessman expressed his regret and added how he felt discouraged as he had spent the time, effort and thousands of ringgit in making this music video a reality. He also mentioned he’s willing to accept his mistakes and how he is doing this to simply fulfil his mother’s wish. Many feel that he’s getting what he deserves, while others are skeptical that he’ll ever learn his lesson. After all, the man thrives on viral controversy.
