It has been a long time coming, and now one of the food trends that we’ve been meaning to try for the longest time has finally arrived on our shores.

Açaí (pronounced as assa-ee) bowls are commonly found in New York, Hawaii, Los Angeles, Australia, and Korea. It has been dubbed the “ultimate superfood” due to its array of health benefits including high level of antioxidants, amounts of iron, calcium, fibre, and vitamin A and also containing proponents that will help prevent arthritis, inflammation, obesity, erectile dysfunction, neurological diseases, and allergies.

An açaí bowl is basically a really thick smoothie topped with oatmeal or granola, nuts, chia seeds, goji berries, shredded coconut, freshly cut fruits, or peanut butter. One bowl will keep you happily full for hours and satisfy your sweet craving at the same time. So you can imagine why we’ve always wanted to wolf down a bowl or 2 ourselves.

Luckily, there’s Açaí Lab 🙂

Açaí Lab is the brain child of Orbstergo Industries, a company co-founded by 2 guys, one in the engineering field and the other in the advertising field – both co-founders have a history in martial arts, one particularly in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ).

First launched on 9th January at the Copa Da Malasia event in Jaya Shopping Centre, Açaí Lab promotes healthy living and diet among people while enjoying a delicious bowl of dessert.

Their motto is, “Desserts, minus the guilt!”

Aimed at serving refreshing, healthy, and delicious bowls of Açaí to the masses, Açaí Lab uses only natural or homemade products (the granola and peanut butter) in order to ensure quality and consistence taste in all their products. Their patented bowls consists of organic based frozen Açaí, freshly cut fruits, homemade peanut butter and granola, various seeds as well as fresh juices, all blended into one amazing bowl.

Eventually, they plan to introduce 5 main flavours for their bowls. On top of that, they’ll be offering customers customisation their own bowls from the açaí base, hence welcoming any creative creations their customers might have.

How much per bowl, you ask? Açaí Lab first launched their açaí bowls at a promotional price of RM7 per bowl. So it shouldn’t be that far off from their expected retail prices.

Oh, and may we add that they’ll also be offering smoothie drinks made from açaí as well as other products in the near future.

As far as we know, they don’t have a physical store yet but they are in the final stages of preparation for their first store location, so expect to see Açaí Lab by mid March 2016! You heard it here first 😉

For more information, visit their Facebook page. They’re also on Twitter and Instagram so follow them for more timely updates.
