Newly released Tamil thriller “Kadaram Kondan” has been officially banned in Malaysia due to the negative portrayal of the Malaysian police in the movie.
The movie’s distributor, Lotus Five Star (LFS), made a last-minute announcement on its social media, quoting that it is “as per the order of the Film Censorship Board (LPF) of Malaysia.”
Previously, it was speculated that the movie was banned due to its title which translates as “Kedah’s Conqueror” but LPF later denied the claims.
According to LPF’s chairman Mohd Zamberi Abdul Aziz, the movie was banned because the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) in the story have been portrayed in bad light.
“No. It is not because of the title, but the film has damaged the image of Malaysian police,” the chairman told Malaysia Kini.
“If it’s just a scene then we can just remove it, and approve the film. But the entire plot put our Malaysian police in bad light. If we cut all the scenes, then no one will be able to understand the story,” he added.
It’s official – Kadaram Kondan is banned in Malaysia. According to sources, it’s because Vikram would be playing as a dirty Malaysian cop and it’s against our law to show the police in a negative way.
Life is sad for a movie-buff in Malaysia 😭

90 percent of the movie was shot in Malaysia, but it is also revealed that the filmmakers failed to get necessary permits to shoot some of the movie scenes in the country, which is considered as illegal.
The announcement has disappointed many Malaysian Tamil movie buffs who have mostly bombarded LFS’s social media account and taken to Twitter to call out the ban.

Earlier this year, another Tamil movie titled “Super Deluxe” was also banned in Malaysia due to religious content, causing dissatisfaction among Malaysians.
Directed by Rajesh M Selva, “Kadaram Kondan” is a remake of French film “Point Blank”, starring Vikram and Akshara Haasan as leading stars as well as Sarawak-born actress Jasmine Kaar, who made her Kollywood debut via this movie, playing the main antagonist.
