It’s always a great thing to see beloved stars make their long-awaited comeback, especially when it’s been so long. In the Hong Kong television industry alone, we’re seeing a few notable names supposedly making their return, including actresses Esther Kwan (关咏荷) and Maggie Cheung (张可颐).
After getting married and becoming a mother, Esther Kwan stepped away from acting in 2008 to spend more time with her family. While she did appear in two more projects after her retirement, 2013 was the last time fans saw the star’s acting chops – until this year. Recently, the 60-year-old filmed a hair product commercial, marking her first project since officially retiring from acting.
The commercial garnered netizens’ attention, with many praising Esther’s appearance in the clip. Many noted the star looked great for her age and commended her for taking good care of herself. Even husband Nick Cheung (张家辉) couldn’t help but gush about his wife when asked about her in a recent interview. He also praised her beauty, saying he often tells her she gets prettier with age. Unfortunately, neither Nick nor Esther shared any upcoming projects for the actress – but fans remain hopeful, saying they will tune into anything she stars in.
Another star making her much-anticipated comeback in Hong Kong television is Maggie Cheung. The 54-year-old was once the top actress in TVB, earning critical acclaim with her performances. However, it’s been 12 years since the star appeared in a TVB drama, mostly focusing on movies and projects in Mainland China.
Recently, it was rumoured that Maggie will soon be returning to TVB to film a new medical drama, her first drama with the broadcasting station in over a decade. Many fans have reacted positively to the claims, saying they have been waiting years to see the actress “return home”. According to news reports, the drama, “Beyond The Tower (巨塔之后)” will start filming in May and is dubbed the medical version of the highly popular “The Queen Of News”.
