Last month, local internet celeb Bai En (白蒽)(formerly known as Bryan Wee) came out as a transwoman and shared her plans to undergo gender reassignment surgery in Thailand. The content creator even met up with Taiwanese transgender influencer Little A Spicy (小A辣) to talk to her about her experiences and asked for some advice before finalising her decision to proceed with the surgery.

Everything was actually going as planned as she flew to the neighbouring country and even went ahead with checkups with her doctor there to make sure she was healthy enough for the procedure. However, it seemed that something happened that made the 35-year-old change her mind about the operation at the last minute. Here’s her explanation:

Over the weekend, Bai En posted a video on all her social media pages to announce that she will no longer proceed with the gender reassignment surgery despite already booking an appointment and flying over to Thailand. In her video, she first clarified that this last-minute decision was not an April Fool’s prank and she even provided her doctor’s letters as proof that she was close to going under the knife.

The influencer then explained that the main reason for changing her mind was mainly due to the procedure as it would cost her RM50,000. “I can use that money for something else. I regretted my decision when I was at the operating table. I realised that I can use the money to invest in something more meaningful,” she said. The controversial celeb then added that she can still identify as a woman without surgically transitioning to one saying, “I can still be a ‘man’ who wears skirts, who likes pink, and who prefers keeping his hair long. I can also be a ‘man’ who likes other men”.

Bai En ended her video by insisting that she does not care how others perceive her and that she wouldn’t mind if people addressed her using female pronouns. “I’m Bai En, not Bryan Wee”. After posting the video, some netizens on Facebook suggested that she start a crowdfunding campaign to help pay for the procedure but the YouTuber insisted that it is not a priority right now.

Others ridiculed her for backing out on her decision, adding she should’ve done better research before wasting her cash on her flight tickets and accommodation. Regardless whether money is the real issue, many of her followers on Instagram showed support and reassured her that she should live her life however she wants. After all, a gender surgery can be life threatening.

As seen in the screenshot above, Little A Spicy gave words of advice on Facebook saying that Bai En should definitely take her time in thinking about the matter as the procedure is irreversible and also stated that the hormone medications she would need to take would have long term side effects that she may or may not be able to endure in the future.
