Yesterday (Monday, 2nd December), local model Zahnita Wilson shocked the nation by posting a photo of the bruises on her face to Instagram, which she alleged were caused by her husband, Abdul Zackery Ghouse. Since then, many have voiced concerns over the safety of both her and her children.
Speaking to the media, the business owner finally decided to open up about what had been happening behind closed doors for years. According to Sinar Daily, the “Kuliah Cinta Ini” star had been enduring her husband’s abuse for two decades. The latest incident reportedly occurred after she suspected he was having an affair with another woman.
“The reason I was hit was because I asked my husband if he had another girlfriend. He couldn’t process the question well enough to give a verbal answer,” she explained. She had previously filed for divorce in 2012 but it was never finalised. The 39-year-old tried to reconcile for the sake of their children but unfortunately, things did not work out, and she felt she had no choice but to come forward with the truth after enduring so much pain over the years.
“I’ve called the police every time he hit me, but nothing was done. I tried to save this marriage, and he even promised me the world, but he soon went back to abusing me. It’s been 20 years, and I’ve had enough!” she told reporters. If the violence wasn’t horrible enough, the model claimed that her husband had taken their children with him for more than a week, and she had run out of options to solve the issue.
Meanwhile, an unidentified source close to Zahnita told Sinar Harian that the celebrity mother chose to remain silent out of concern for her family. “This is not the first time this has happened to her. She just chose to keep it to herself to the point that even her other family members are unaware of the problem,” the source said. It was also reported that strange individuals had approached the model’s mother at her house in Pahang, claiming to be from an agency and wanting to take her to the police station.
When asked for identification or a warrant, they failed to provide the necessary documents. However, there is currently no evidence to suggest that this was the work of Zahnita’s husband attempting to silence her. According to the same source, Abdul Zackery has finally been arrested by police and the oldest child will cooperate with the investigation.
Kuantan OCPD Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu confirmed the arrest and told reporters that the case is currently being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code (for criminal intimidation). If found guilty then Zahnita’s husband will receive at least two years jail term or a fine or both. Let’s hope for the best and may the mother be reunited with her children soon.
