International K-pop and K-drama fans are likely aware that men in Korea are required to complete compulsory military service, often learning this through watching their favourite male celebrities enlist. This service typically lasts 18-21 months, and men usually serve between the ages of 18 and 35 years old.
The oldest member of BTS (방탄소년단), Jin (진), completed his mandatory military service earlier this year after 18 months as an active-duty soldier. The news was celebrated by his fellow BTS members, who visited him at a military base in Yeoncheon, Korea. However, there is now another BTS member who has just finished his military service.

Jung Ho-seok (정호석), better known by his stage name J-Hope (제이홉), has officially completed his military service as part of the Baekho New Corps in the 36th Infantry Division. The 30-year-old artist is the second BTS member to finish his required military duty, following Jin’s completion earlier this year. J-Hope, who has been a vital part of BTS as the group’s main dancer, rapper, and sub-vocalist, enlisted on 18th April 2023, and spent the last year and a half serving his country.
In a heartwarming moment, he was greeted by Jin and several staff members at the military base. They presented him with flowers, a traditional gesture to celebrate a soldier’s completion of service. As the popular idol gave his final salute at the guard station, he was seen smiling and hugging Jin, showing the close bond between the two members.

Following his discharge, the idol took a moment to speak to the media, addressing both the press and his beloved fans. “First of all, thank you so much. I completed my service in good health. I’m really grateful.” His words were a testament to the support he received from fans throughout his service. He also reflected on his time in the military, where he served diligently for 1 year and 6 months. He emphasised the importance of appreciating the Republic of Korea Army soldiers, urging his fellow Koreans to extend their gratitude for their service.
As of now, there are no new updates regarding the popular celebrity. However, J-Hope’s completion of his military service marks a significant milestone, not only for him but for BTS as a group. As more members continue to fulfil their military duties in the coming years, fans eagerly await the day when all seven members will be reunited. In the meantime, here are some videos of his military completion:
