Earlier this month, the girls of DOLLA made their comeback with their new single, “Question”. Unfortunately, the music video for the track has since been taken down following backlash, sparking a heated debate over censorship and religious sensitivity.

On 15th November 2025 (Saturday), Universal Music Malaysia (UMM) released a statement regarding the music video, saying it would remove it following criticism that it was inappropriate and insensitive to local audiences. The issue stemmed from politicians and religious figures complaining that the music video and the outfits worn by the DOLLA members were too provocative.

In its statement, UMM said it decided to remove the music video from all digital platforms as a responsible step to preserve the sensitivities of Malaysia’s diverse communities and religions. Managing director Kim Lim said the decision was made after conducting a thorough review of the content and the feedback received from the public, adding that taking down the music video is a reasonable step to preserve harmony and mutual respect among all parties.

Understandably, this issue sparked a heated debate amongst netizens and DOLLA fans. Some iDOLLAs criticised the move, arguing that the removal was unnecessary and that the music video wasn’t as inappropriate as many made it out to be. Others also pointed out that other local artists have featured provocative images in their music videos but were never censored by the government, sparking an argument that DOLLA were unfairly targeted.

There was also criticism that the government pushed for censorship in the music industry for supposedly inappropriate scenes, whilst many local television and film projects have featured equally, if not more, indecent scenes. Some netizens even called out religious figures for focusing on policing women for their dressing, rather than taking on more serious matters like ending child marriages.

However, some netizens agreed with the move, calling for celebrities to be more respectful of the local culture and religions. What are your thoughts on this? Here’s a look at what the girls wore in the music video:
