A few months ago, Malaysians were shaken by the news of a plane crash at the Elmina residential area. The aircraft was later identified as a Beechcraft premiere twin jet. According to several reports, the tragic incident happened due to a possible mechanical failure.
Just yesterday (Monday, 16th October), a similar aircraft almost suffered the same fate when a Royal Malaysian Air Force pilot had no choice but to conduct an emergency landing at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport during flight training. Here’s what happened:
@mrturboprop 16 Oct – Emergency landing di SZB oleh pilots air force, one landing gear xboleh turun! ‘Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing’ Salute kpd the pilots 🫡 #subangskypark #pilot #airforce #emergency #landing #newsmalaysia #trendingmalaysia
A Malaysian pilot who goes by MrTurboProp on TikTok posted a video of a scary incident that happened at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (also known as Subang Airport). A Beechcraft King Air plane appeared to have crash-landed on the runway as it was seen skidding off onto the grass area with only one landing gear supporting it.
The airport siren was also heard in the background to indicate that this was an emergency situation. Airport security and emergency team were then seen on the field to assist the air force pilot as well as to investigate what led to the emergency landing. According to the caption, it was said that one of the landing gears seemed to have malfunctioned but luckily, the pilot managed to land the plane safely.
Shortly after the incident, Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) released a statement to announce a temporary closure of the runway at Subang Airport in order to properly remove the skidded aircraft. The TikTok video went viral with netizens being glad that the pilot came out unscathed while simultaneously praising his skills to safely land the plane.
Others, however, were very concerned about the aircraft’s condition, especially after what happened in Elmina a few months ago. Since the plane suffered a technical malfunction, some suggested that the Beechcraft planes be removed or at least replaced with better aircraft to further ensure the safety of pilots, passengers and citizens on the ground.
Netizens also started questioning the maintenance of these aircraft. These concerns are not baseless, however. Apart from the Elmina crash, according to Free Malaysia Today, there has been a total of 4 other incidents involving Beechcraft planes in the past 46 years. This latest incident marks the 6th time.
Although the Royal Malaysian Air Force addressed the latest Beechcraft incident, they did not comment on netizens’ concerns about the conditions of these aircraft. Let’s hope that there will be no more scary flight incidents like this in the future.
