The Malaysian government surprised us yesterday (Friday, 1st May 2020) by announcing the implementation of the Conditional Movement Control Order effective 4th May 2020 (Monday).
Most business sectors are allowed to operate with some restrictions and limitations. Employees from various sectors will be returning to work on Monday and we will also be seeing dining-in in eateries. The National Security Council (MKN) has provided guidelines on how businesses will operate amidst the pandemic.
Eateries are required to record customer temperatures and place dining tables 2 meters apart. Retailers will also be opened with guidelines from the MKN stressing the use of face masks, hand sanitizers at entrances and limited entry and exit routes in premises.
Retail branches include shopping malls and it looks like Sunway Malls would be among those returning to business this Monday but of course, with the appropriate safety and hygiene measures taken.
Sunway Pyramid announced via Facebook that Sunway Malls will be reopened on 4th May 2020. The malls would operate between 10am to 10pm but they have highlighted that the experience for shoppers would not be the same as it was before.
All of their shops (except those in the essential category) have been provided the flexibility to open a minimum of 8 hours a day so there would be some shops opened later in the day and some closed earlier in the evening. Sunway also highlighted that 82 measures have been put in place to ensure safety.
We’ll probably be seeing most stores in operation but cinemas, karaoke centers, hair salons, beauty salons and indoors sports (including gym) would remain CLOSED. Check out the full statement below:
Retailers are allowed to perform necessary opening preparations, deep cleaning, safety checks and stock taking with immediate effect. Staff entering the mall are required to undergo temperature scanning process.
Here is a list of Sunway malls and tenants:
- Sunway Pyramid
- Sunway Giza
- Sunway Carnival Mall
- Sunway Velocity Mall
- Sunway Putra Mall
- Sunway Big Box Retail Park
- Sunway Citrine Hub
Although we’re getting a bit more freedom, it’s also important to remember that we’re still not in the clear yet. Take the necessary precautions and stay safe.
