It’s never easy having a member leave an idol group. Although fans do suffer, the pain and heartbreak felt by the fellow members are amplified.
L.Joe is the latest K-Pop idol to leave his group and his former members have spoken up about his departure at their fan event. The event, named “High Five Angel”, was held yesterday (Sunday, 9th April) to celebrate the release of their 2nd studio album “High Five”. In an emotional segment, each member wrote a handwritten letter and proceeded to read them out loud.
Niel was the first to read his letter and he apologised to fans regarding the situation. He revealed that the members tried their best to persuade L.Joe to stay, but to no avail.
His full letter read, “I want to apologize. I can’t reveal everything, but a lot has happened. We kept trying to talk to him, but he had already made up his mind. From then on, I thought a lot about the team, regarding whether it would be right for us to keep going as 5 members, or if we should go our separate ways like the member who left. Every time I thought about that, I longed for the stage, and I think the other members had similar feelings. We pulled ourselves together and prepared really hard for a comeback.”
Leader C.A.P also took this chance to express his strong feelings for his team. “While deciding whether I should extend my contract with the agency, I realized that I really like my team. They’re recognizing me little by little at the company too,” exclaimed the rapper.
As such, it came as a huge shock when L.Joe announced his departure from the group. He continued, “I knew he was contemplating (leaving), but I thought he would stay with us if this album turned out well. He had even recorded the title song with us. To be honest, it was really hard on me when I heard about the news through the press. It would have been better if he had talked to the members before making up his mind.”
Despite the amount of tears shed by fans and the members, the event still ended on a high note with the TEEN TOP members performing their fan song, “Angel”.
We hope you stay strong, Angels and TEEN TOP! We wish the best of luck to the idol group and also to L.Joe in their future endeavours.
