Wait a minute, is The Malaysian Insider making a comeback?
Social media has been abuzz with the news portal’s resurgence after a teaser page with TMI’s nameplate was published with the tagline “Returning With The Truth”.
Besides sporting a new URL (malaysia-insider.asia as compared to the original themalaysianoutsider.com), several netizens have also noticed the slight difference between the alleged revival and TMI, namely Malaysia Insider versus Malaysian Insider.
The web page also sports a countdown ticker together with an invitation box to leave your e-mail so you’d be informed once the site goes live.
Although this news was widely shared after Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua posted Malaysia Insider’s link on his Facebook page, the former editor of TMI, Jahabar Sadiq, has caution everyone against falling for something that could be a scam. According to him, there hasn’t been any plans to revive the popular news portal.
So everyone's tweeting or facebooking this but this has nothing to do with me. The Malaysian Insider died 15.3.2016 pic.twitter.com/2x7bc0BpbT

Several Facebook users have also pointed out that the web page is simply “fishing for e-mail addresses”. “They are fishing for email addresses. Is this a scam?” asked Nicholas Chan, while Dharm Navaratnam shared, “My antivirus picked up a Malicious Redirection attempt when I accessed the link… be careful Peeps.”
The Malaysian Insider was forced to close down on 15th March earlier this year, shortly after it’s 8th anniversary, following a ban by MCMC.
