I.O.I (아이오아이) fans, your favourite K-Pop idol girl group’s first sub-unit has released a video teaser for their upcoming track, “Whatta Man”!
The yet-to-be-named sub-unit consist of 7 members – Kim Do Yeon, Kim So Hye, Kim Chung Ha, Im Na Young, Jeon So Mi, Choi Yoo Jung, and Chinese member Pinky – and they will be releasing their new single on 9th August, which is also a day after YG Entertainment debut its long-awaited girl group, BLACKPINK.
Rearranged and composed by Ryan Jhun (EXO’s “Love Me Right” and Red Velvet’s “Dumb Dumb”), their new title track, “Whatta Man”, is actually just a Korean cover of Linda Lyndell’s hit song “What A Man!” (1968). A newer version of the song was also recorded in 1993 by Salt-n-Pepa with En Vogue.
It was also recently revealed that member Chungha led the choreography for their new song. The talented young idol is known as the best dancer in the group and she was recommended by former After School leader Park Kahi to be the lead dancer of I.O.I.
In the beginning of the teaser video, the girls were individually introduced via close-up shots, then, they can be seen dancing to the music in matching sexy black outfits.
We’re not sure if it’s appropriate for the group’s maknae, 15-year-old Jeon So Mi, to don such a tight and revealing ensemble, but by the looks of the trailer, the song and concept seems promising.
