Ooh, it seems like David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson won’t be the only cast members to return and reprise their respective roles in the “X-Files” revival series 😀
Duchovny recently made an appearance on “The Late Show with David Letterman” to talk about the return of his character.
Duchovy played FBI Special Agent Fox Mulder alongside Anderson’s Dana Scully in the sci-fi series created by Chris Carter. The series was the longest-running sci-fi series in US television history as it aired from 1993 – 2002 on Fox, spanning 9 whole seasons and 202 episodes. The series revolves around Mulder and Scully investigating X-Files: marginalised, unsolved cases involving paranormal phenomena.
When asked whether the original cast will return and reprise their respective roles, he revealed that not one, but 2 fan favourites will be coming back to the 6-episode revival series.
He said, “There’s Gillian and I, we’re original. Mitch Pileggi will come back, and the cigarette-smoking man — if that means anything to anyone — will be coming back.”
Fox did not respond to the report yet, but Pileggi is expected to return to reprise his role as FBI Assistant Director Walter Skinner. William B. Davis, who portrayed The Smoking Man (also referred to as Cancer Man, the Cigarette-Smoking Man, CSM or C-Man), is also expected to return.
In addition, TV Wise is reporting that Robert Patrick and Annabeth Gish are in talks to return, despite having only appeared for the final 2 seasons. They were introduced as the main characters in the 8th season, playing Special Agent John Doggett and Special Agent Monica Reyes, respectively.
However, no formal deals are in place for Patrick, Gish, and Davis yet. Carter has earlier teased that the revival series will consist of a mix of standalone cases and mythology episodes.

Further details about the event series remain under wraps, but the production will begin this summer in Vancouver.
