Last year, on 27th July, beloved Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh (杨紫琼) finally tied the knot with long-time beau Jean Todt after a 19-year engagement. The long-awaited marriage was met with tons of enthusiasm from family, friends and fans of the Ipoh-born star.
A year has passed since then, and the couple recently celebrated their first wedding anniversary. Michelle took to her social media pages to share about the special day, simply writing, “Celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary”. Accompanying the post were two photos, one of which was of the couple happily posing together in a garden. However, the second photo had many netizens in shock before sighing in relief.
The photo showed what appeared to be a stone decoration with Michelle and Jean’s names engraved on the surface, along with the date of the wedding, 27th July 2023. While the stone sphere seemed to be a great item to commemorate the special day, it did appear to resemble a tombstone at first glance, which explained why many were shocked. One netizen commented about the stone, writing, “I nearly had a heart attack anyway congratulations on your anniversary”.
Despite some netizens being shocked by the innocuous stone, Michelle’s post was showered with tons of congratulatory comments on her first wedding anniversary with Jean. Many wished the couple more happiness for the years to come. Several celebrities also showed some love for the happy duo, including actress Carla Gugino, actor Harry Shum Jr, comedian Ken Jeong and director James Gunn.
Besides celebrating her wedding anniversary, Michelle is currently in Paris to attend the 2024 Olympics, supporting the Refugee Olympic Team as a member of the International Olympic Committee. She’s also gearing up for the 2025 premiere of her upcoming movie, “Star Trek: Section 31”, a standalone spin-off movie focusing on her Star Trek character, Emperor Philippa Georgiou.
