In August, news broke out that Oscar-winning actress Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh (杨紫琼) had wedded long-time beau Jean Henri Todt. Following the joyous announcement, news reports shared that the actress was planning to hold a separate wedding banquet in Malaysia, a request by her mother, Datin Janet Yeoh. However, unlike the expected grand ceremony, the banquet was an intimate celebration with only close relatives and friends invited.
According to news reports, the ceremony was held at the Little Katong restaurant in Ipoh on 17th December, with only about a hundred guests invited to the private affair. The event was rather casual as the couple were dressed modestly, with Michelle opting for a green top and pants set with thick-rimmed glasses. Husband Jean was also comfortably dressed as he showed up in a black tee and dark slacks.
Guests shared images of the ceremony, which showed a lively and warm scene. The restaurant was decorated with balloons and included several elements from the couple’s Geneva ceremony, namely the humorous photo of Michelle and Jean edited to the poster of the James Bond film “Tomorrow Never Dies”.
The Ipoh ceremony also saw the return of the wedding invitation sent to their guests in Geneva. It was a simple card sharing a brief history of the couple’s relationship, but for this event, it was made into a large poster for all the guests to see. The poster also included a handwritten annotation noting that the 17th December marks 7,135 days since the couple first met. News reports also shared the menu for the affair, which consisted of a whole barbecued lamb, satay and other local delicacies.
We’re glad Michelle could fulfil her mother’s request for a Malaysian ceremony. Once again, congratulations to the happy couple!
