If you have been keeping up with the American television show, “The Masked Singer”, you may know by now that actress and singer Vanessa Hudgens was named the winner of Season 11. The singer went by the role of The Goldfish to beat actor Scott Porter, a.k.a The Gumball, to win the Golden Mask Trophy.
After her win, the former Disney starlet spoke with ET to share her journey on the show and how she felt performing with another identity. Vanessa said, “It was definitely quite the ride. A ride I didn’t think would affect me so deeply.” The actress said that performing under the costume and mask gave her a sense of freedom that she hadn’t felt in a while. She also said that the experience made her feel really empowered.
Of course, the preparation for the role also came with obstacles, namely trying to keep her identity a secret from her friend and the show’s “detective” Rita Ora. After Vanessa took her Goldfish mask off, she said she had been waiting to reveal her identity because she wanted to see Rita’s reaction. The British singer said she felt something odd with her friend because she had ignored her messages, only to find out it was because Vanessa was part of the show and didn’t want to spoil anything.
As for why she decided to participate in “The Masked Singer”, the 36-year-old said it aligned with her current career aspirations. Vanessa said the opportunity came during the writers’ strike, and she believed the show was something she could work with. She also said that she wanted to do it for the fans who are asking her to sing more.
Many fans and friends have reacted to her win, showering the mother-to-be with congratulatory messages. Some expressed shock to learn that she was the star behind The Goldfish, while others said they already knew because they were very familiar with her voice. Fellow High School Musical alumnus Lucas Grabeel and Corbin Blue also shared their excitement for her win.
