Since the early days of DISSY (低清), content creator K-Lao (K佬), a.k.a KLay, has been a regular figure in many of the creator group’s projects. However, the 28-year-old has recently announced his departure from the group after seven years.
The content creator, whose real name is Lay Kar Heng, took to Instagram to share the news and reveal the reason for his departure. In the video posted on 23rd January 2025 (Thursday), K-Lao said he decided not to renew his contract with DISSY a year ago. He admitted that leaving the group wasn’t an easy decision, adding that his future would be uncertain without DISSY. However, he said his departure was to challenge himself and develop his career.
At the same time, the public figure assured there was no discord between him and the group and that both parties split on good terms. In the video, K-Lao also expressed gratitude towards DISSY and the team for allowing his career to grow in the past seven years. He said he would continue being in contact with DISSY, calling them his second family. He also asked for the public to refrain from making unnecessary speculations about his departure.
Many fans and fellow content creators have reacted to the video, wishing K-Lao the best of luck in his future endeavours. The official DISSY Instagram account also wrote a lengthy post to honour the media personality and thank him for his hard work. The group also spoke about K-Lao’s final project with the group, which is the upcoming Chinese New Year movie, “Close Ur Kopitiam (关你茶室)”.
Since his announcement, K-Lao has shared updates on his new endeavours. Earlier today (24th January 2025), he announced that content creator Allen Khor will be his manager and will collaborate with him on future projects. Allen also manages fellow content creator May Ho, who is also his girlfriend. Many fans reacted positively to the new partnership, saying they look forward to their projects.
