There are times when we feel that international celebrities don’t care about what’s happening in the world, but thankfully, there are kind-hearted individuals who genuinely fight for human rights and stand up against injustice. We’ve already covered the K-pop idols who have voiced, either explicitly or implicitly, their support for Palestine. Likewise, several Hollywood stars have consistently used their platforms to raise awareness, encourage donations, and urge world leaders to put an end to the ongoing genocide.

However, and unfortunately, their support sometimes comes at a price. “Desperate Housewives” star Marcia Cross recently opened up about the backlash she faced after voicing her support for Palestine. Here’s what she said:

Actress Marcia Cross has consistently shown her support for the people of Palestine and spoken out against the genocide committed by Israel. Her Instagram page serves as proof, with many of her posts dedicated to activism. Earlier this week, she was among the celebrities who delivered speeches at the Gaza Tribunal in Istanbul. During her statement, she opened up about the backlash she has faced since the day the genocide intensified.

“Who am I if I stay silent? I wrote on my social feeds for a ceasefire. And for that, I was accused of hate. Friends I’d known for decades suddenly saw me, not as a fellow mother or woman begging for the killing to stop, but as someone they believed hated Jews. I was shocked. How could this happen? To believe that empathy for one people must mean hatred of another… I was dumbfounded,” she said.

The Hollywood star went on to say that the Gaza Tribunal exists and is completely necessary because the legal and political systems designed to protect life have failed. “That’s why I’m here, because my conscience, our conscience, cannot stop at sympathy. It has to move towards action,” she added. Marcia’s speech has since gone viral, moving both fans and netizens alike.

Many praised the actress for her consistency in her support for the liberation of Palestine. Others shared their personal experiences of ending longtime friendships over the political issue.
