On 25th September, Madeleine Ang, better known as @/okokokmou dropped quite the bombshell. Apparently, she was leaving popular YouTube group DISSY (低清) and had announced her new online persona, MOKA.
Although Madeleine Ang’s announcement was well-received, apparently, not everyone was happy about it. Particularly, DISSY member Anthony Chau Nee (蚂蚁). According to him, not only was her reveal unknown to the other members, they had been blocked on her socials!
Anthony took to his socials yesterday (26th September) to speak about Madeleine’s announcement. “Yesterday, I received a Xiaohongshu article from a netizen and discovered that you had officially left DISSY. I was really shocked and sad at the moment,” he said. Anthony claimed netizens had brought up how coldly they had been treating her but denied it happening.
“I am more worried about the rumours and random speculations from netizens which will not only hurt DISSY but you,” he wrote. Anthony shared that he hoped they could still be on good terms in the future despite Madeleine leaving DISSY. “I don’t want to erase the happy and playful moments we had before,” he said.
But to netizens surprise, Anthony then asked Madeleine to unblock DISSY members from her socials. “It (makes) it seem like we don’t want to follow your new Instagram account. (But) we still want to (follow) your daily life and see your beautiful photos,” he added. However, despite his cheery encouragement towards Madeleine, netizens apparently weren’t happy with Anthony.
Several called him out for publicly requesting Madeleine to unblock him. One reprimanded him, saying: “This is a private matter between the two of you and should be discussed privately. Putting it on social media will only give people a bad impression.” Another claimed they didn’t understand why Anthony wanted to bring it up. “It’s it (better) to move on?” they asked
Things got worse for Anthony when netizens realised Madeleine had in fact responded to Anthony’s request in a comment with: “Who blocked you? I didn’t block you“, but the comment had been hidden. Several started claiming Anthony was jealous while others alleged Madeleine wasn’t wrong in blocking him, especially after viewing his actions.
Anthony’s girlfriend Debbie later claimed in her Instagram Story that he had needed to bring the matter up to Madeleine publicly. “If you don’t speak out about your account being blocked, it will be widely reported by the media that (you) aren’t following (her) new account, boycotting her (and blaming) bullying at the workplace,” she claimed.
DISSY officially too touched on the issue, claiming that the announcement too had caught them off-guard. However, they added that they had still been in discussion over Madeleine Ang’s leaving DISSY and were hoping to come up with an official resolution soon. “We hope everyone will give us both some time to deal with it. We want this matter to end well more than anyone else,” they said.
Well, Madeleine Ang’s new account as MOKA has reportedly gained a few followers from the DISSY group. However, MOKA herself doesn’t seem too fussed about who is and isn’t following her. We sincerely hope her rebranding will takeoff well, regardless of the drama that is following it.
