A performer’s professionalism and skills really come into play when facing a sudden technical issue. Recently, the K-pop group SEVENTEEN (세븐틴) received praise for how they handled an audio issue during their fan meeting.

Over the weekend, SEVENTEEN held their fan meeting in Japan, meeting thousands of fans at the Kyocera Dome in Osaka. The event was a success, except for one portion of the third day’s performance when the members suddenly encountered an issue with their in-ear monitors. According to reports, the audio played into the in-ear monitor was out of sync, causing the members to miss the timing of the music.

The issue reportedly happened while the group performed their song “Boom Boom”, where members sang with a slight delay. Since they were singing live, all the members immediately noticed the issue with the audio. Leader S.Coups (에스쿱스) then assessed the situation, ushering the rest to move towards the main stage while making the audio issue known to the staff and crew.

It turns out that S.Coups had another reason for asking his groupmates to return to the main stage. A fan explained that the main stage had monitor speakers which played the concert’s audio, but without the beat countdown that the boys would hear through the in-ear monitor. This alternative audio meant SEVENTEEN could still gauge their voices and the music to perform their songs live in sync.

SEVENTEEN performed the next few songs while relying purely on the stage monitor speakers. As shown in videos on social media, the group didn’t miss a beat and performed flawlessly. Clips of the issue went viral on social media, with many fans praising the group for their ability to quickly adapt to unexpected problems. Many also praised S.Coups for his leadership, noting his quick thinking in rounding up the members and ushering them to the main stage.

Many CARATs (SEVENTEEN fans) even started calling the situation a “legendary” moment in the group’s history, noting that it proves they were true performers. Kudos to the members for their professionalism, and especially to S.Coups for his quick thinking!

Here’s a chronological look at what happened:
