We’ve all fantasised about our favourite singers singing, or at least wishing us, happy birthday. Some lucky fans even get to experience this during concerts or meet-and-greet events. While such moments are fairly common between fans and idols, witnessing one legend singing Happy Birthday to another is certainly a rare occasion.
In case you didn’t know, former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir will be celebrating his 100th birthday tomorrow (Thursday, 10th July), and who better to sing him a happy birthday than Malaysian pop legend Datuk Jamal Abdillah? Check out this interaction:
Earlier this week, a media officer named Adam Mohd Muhayeddin shared a video on his TikTok channel showing Datuk Jamal Abdillah singing Happy Birthday to Tun Dr Mahathir, ahead of the former prime minister’s upcoming 100th birthday. The moment appears to have taken place inside a store or museum exhibition, based on the interior setting.
After finishing the song, the artist kissed Tun Mahathir’s hand as a sign of respect. The political figure asked the music icon his age, to which he replied that he was 66. The soon-to-be 100-year-old then praised the singer for his enduring vocal abilities, saying, “66 years old and you’ve still got the voice.” Datuk Jamal was then heard offering his well wishes to Malaysia’s fourth and seventh prime minister ahead of his milestone birthday.
The video has since gone viral, garnering over 881,000 views. Fans have flooded the comments section with early birthday wishes for Tun Mahathir, expressing hopes for his continued good health, long life, and prosperity. Turning 100 is a huge milestone, but so far, there’s no information on how the former prime minister plans to celebrate it. One thing’s for sure: he’ll be surrounded by loved ones to celebrate his day together.
