If there’s another thing that makes Malaysia truly Asia besides our amazing malls, it’s definitely our food. Recently, an Indonesian Tiktoker under the handle @/syffnadya made a video stating how Malaysian food has triggered her culture shock.

The user known as Syifa, explained in the beginning of the video the possibility of being frugal, especially in food expenses despite living in a city. She claimed that food served at malls in Jakarta is expensive and you might need to spend more than RM15 to be able to enjoy a delicious meal.

Syifa then showed her journey to Quill City Mall, stating how she would often get a meal in any of the restaurants there as it is affordable. One of her suggestions was a cafe called Kafe Ruuma, which served a variety of traditional dishes at an insanely good deal and served a huge portion. The content creator ended up paying a total of RM11 for a plate of Nasi Lemak and a cup of Teh Tarik, satisfied with the meal she received.

She also claimed how perfect this place was as the mall is located close to UniKL, making it accessible for students to enjoy a meal. The video quickly gained the attention of local netizens with several Malaysians who were happy that international students were able to enjoy Malaysian food. A few netizens agreed and shared their experience dining at the said restaurant, some suggested that the cafe’s signature is their curry noodles!

As the video garnered attention, multiple netizens shared their experience of dining in Indonesia. They agreed with Syifa’s prior statement of food being slightly expensive in Indonesia. One netizen commented, “I travelled to Medan three weeks ago and bought banana fritters by a roadside stall. I paid a total of 35,000 rupiah (RM10+) for 8 pieces while I could get 8 pieces for only RM4”.

Thus, the entirety of this video perfectly reflects upon the saying “East, West, Home’s Best” which clarifies that we may seek greatness in other lands without realising that people may find gold in ours. What do you think?
