Back in 2023, singer Shila Amzah opened up about her parents’ divorce, saying that it was for the best, as she and her siblings had grown weary of their constant arguments. However, that same year, it emerged that her father, Datuk ND Lala, had secretly married a much younger woman.
It later transpired that his new wife is Shila’s former best friend. With that in mind, it’s understandable why the songstress is hesitant to meet her new stepmother. However, the marriage does not appear to have affected her relationship with her father.
In an interview with Kosmo, Shila Amzah discussed her current relationship with her father, confirming they have no issues with each other, although she has yet to meet her stepmother. “[My stepmother and I] have not been in contact, and I’m not ready yet. But I am meeting my father for breaking fast this weekend,” she told the publication.
The singer, known for her hit “Patah Seribu”, also reflected on her initial reaction to her parents’ divorce and their current partners. “There’s no use in forcing a relationship just for the sake of their children. I want [my parents] to find their happiness. My dad’s choice of spouse just took me by surprise,” she explained. The mother-of-two revealed that she discovered her father’s new wife was her former best friend while going through photos on her phone.
“There were too many photos with her—possibly over 50,000 on my phone,” she said. According to Kosmo, Shila had previously posted on her social media that she was searching for a woman, without providing further details. The only clue she shared was that they had attended the same secondary school in Kuala Lumpur. It was later confirmed that the woman in question is her father’s new wife.
