In the 1990s, “The Four Heavenly Kings (四大天王)” dominated the Hong Kong entertainment industry. Andy Lau (刘德华), Jacky Cheung (張學友), Leon Lai (黎明) and Aaron Kwok (郭富城) were everywhere, from magazines and newspapers to television and cinema. Three decades later, these four stars are still at the top of the game – but could they be making a reunion?

Andy Lau recently completed the Hong Kong leg of his “Today … is the day” tour on 10th January 2025 (Friday). During an interview with journalists, the star responded to the rumours that “The Four Heavenly Kings” will reunite for the opening of Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Sports Park in March 2025. The rumours stemmed from a reported proposal from Hong Kong Legislative Council member Chow Man-kong (周文港).

Unfortunately, Andy didn’t confirm the rumours but said he’s interested in performing with Jacky, Leon and Aaron again. He said, “All four of us together? I want to, I really want to.” The singer also said, “It would be a great event if the four of us could perform at the opening together”. Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Andy has shown interest in reuniting “The Four Heavenly Kings”.

In 2019, Andy shared his “dream” during an interview with talk show host Chen Lu Yu (陈鲁豫), revealing that he wants to reunite “The Four Heavenly Kings” to promote Cantonese music. He said he shared his plans with the other four, saying he’s open to the idea as long as the others are willing. However, he lamented that Jacky seemed unwilling to reunite, to which Lu Yu said he’ll likely join as long as the other three are on board.

The quartet last performed together in 2007 for the 10th anniversary of the handover of Hong Kong. Since then, the four stars have been active in their individual activities, performing on stage and acting in movies. Each of “The Four Heavenly Kings” has also performed in Malaysia; Jacky Cheung last performed here in 2023, Aaron Kwok and Andy Lau in 2024, and Leon Lai in 2019.

A reunion with “The Four Heavenly Kings” will surely make headlines, so let’s hope all four stars are on board. What are your thoughts on this? Do you want to see Andy Lau, Jacky Cheung, Aaron Kwok and Leon Lai share the stage again?
