Like many other countries around the world, Malaysia has a wide variety of dialects, with the Kelantanese dialect being one of the most popular. Many local celebrities, even those not originally from Kelantan, can speak or at least understand the regional language. However, for most people, it remains a struggle.
Although she doesn’t hail from Kelantan, actress-singer Bella Astillah is no stranger to speaking the dialect. During a recent event, she decided it would be entertaining for the guests to witness her rumoured boyfriend, politician Syed Saddiq, attempting to speak the local tongue. Here’s how it went:
Recently, both Bella Astillah and Syed Saddiq attended Cik Bakes’s Jamuan Raya and Grand Opening ceremony in Kok Lanas, Kelantan. The rumoured couple interacted with fans on stage, and during the session, the actress decided to see if she could get the politician to speak in Kelantanese. She asked him in the dialect, “Are you interested in finding a girlfriend in Kelantan?”
Sadly, the 32-year-old didn’t respond in Kelantanese. However, he seized the opportunity to be cheeky, replying, “If I look for a girlfriend in Kelantan, the person next to me (referring to Bella) might get jealous.” This left the mother-of-two flustered, prompting her to hide behind the woman standing next to her. The moment was captured and posted by user @/iffasalim_ on TikTok, which gained a lot of attention from fans.
Many were amused by Bella’s reaction to Syed Saddiq openly flirting with her on stage at the event, commenting on how smooth his answer to her question was. Others pointed out that it’s becoming increasingly obvious that the two are dating, with some expressing their happiness for the rumoured couple. While Bella’s attempt to get the Member of Parliament to speak in Kelantanese was unsuccessful, her reaction was more than enough for fans to enjoy.
