Nowadays, most people, especially creatives, have shown strong opposition to the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to generate art. Prior to this worry, over the years, many have harboured the fear that humanity will one day be overthrown by robots in the future.

While AI technology hasn’t reached that point of concern (yet), it has done some pretty impressive things like interacting with people in different languages, even dialects. Singer-actress Jennifer Lopez demonstrated this in a recent promo video where she asked an AI to “audition” for her. Watch:

To promote the latest sci-fi movie “Atlas”, Netflix Malaysia and Jennifer Lopez have posted multiple videos on TikTok with one of them going viral as it introduced an AI named Smith, a voice role in the newly-released movie played by Gregory James Cohan. The video showed the artificial entity “auditioning” for the actress by speaking in different languages like Portuguese, Thai, Indonesian and even Malay.

What surprised Malaysian fans the most was when the Hollywood star asked Smith to say something in Kelatanese Malay to which ‘he’ responded with, “Bo lah kak wei, sapa bilo nok tanyo ni? (That’s enough, please. How many more are you going to ask me to do?)”. As seen in the comments below, many, especially those from Kelantan were excited to hear the Malaysian dialect used in the promo video.

It is unknown whether the actor who played Smith actually recorded these lines for the promo or if they were AI-generated with the use of his voice. Regardless, we have to agree that it was still a clever and fun way to promote the movie which centres around a war between humanity and machine.
