It’s always exciting when K-pop idols announce their concerts in Malaysia. However, even a hint that a concert is in the works can be just as thrilling. Recently, EXO (엑소) member Lay Zhang (레이/张艺兴) mentioned a possible show in Malaysia, sparking interest among local fans.
Over the weekend, Lay, whose real name is Zhang Yixing, held a livestream broadcast on Instagram. During the broadcast, it’s believed that the idol came across a comment that mentioned Malaysia. He then mentioned wanting to visit again, before asking a staff member if he’s performing in Malaysia on New Year’s Eve. Upon getting a response that there isn’t a Malaysian show planned for New Year’s Eve, Lay expressed disappointment.

The 34-year-old then says he will visit Malaysia in the future, before bringing up his nickname, “Abang Lay”. While the mention of Malaysia was brief, and the idol never directly confirmed a show in the country, it was enough to pique the interest of local EXO-Ls. Many cheered over the possibility of another Lay concert in Malaysia. Meanwhile, some discussed whether Lay was talking about an EXO concert.
Previously, SM Entertainment confirmed that the K-pop group is gearing up for their long-awaited group comeback in 2026, with Lay confirmed to participate. There are also rumours that a world tour will follow suit after the release of their album in the first quarter of the coming year. Many global EXO-Ls have expressed hope that their country will be included in the list of stops, noting that it’s been six years since the last EXO tour.

While it’s been years since EXO held a concert in Malaysia as a group, most of the members have performed here in recent years for their solo activities. Just this past year, Kai ((카이), Suho (수호), Baekhyun (백현) and D.O (디오) held solo concerts in Kuala Lumpur. Meanwhile, Chen (첸), Chanyeol (찬열), Xiumin (시우민) and Lay last made appearances in Malaysia in 2024. Lay, in particular, performed at Mega Star Arena in July 2024 for his “Grandline 4: Step” tour.
Unfortunately, there’s no news on whether Lay or any of the EXO members are returning to Malaysia soon, but there’s nothing wrong with hoping. Here’s the clip of Lay mentioning Malaysia in his Instagram Live:
