While society has become more inclusive and welcoming to different genders and sexual identities, an idol coming out is still major news. Recently, XG (エックスジー/엑스지) member Cocona (ココナ/코코나) revealed their new identity as a transmasculine non-binary.

On 6th December 2025 (Saturday), Cocona celebrated their 20th birthday with an emotional message of their coming out, revealing that they had undergone top surgery earlier this year. In the post, the Japanese-born idol said the label of female never truly fit who they are, adding that they have come to accept and embrace themselves. In the same post, Cocona shared photos of themselves, showing off their top surgery scars.

The rapper also thanked the XG members, their family and XG’s executive producer, Simon Jakops, for their support, adding that they helped them embrace their true identity. Cocona also expressed gratitude for the ALPHAZ for their constant support. They ended the post, writing, “May these words gently light a spark in someone’s heart. And to everyone who needs it — may my love reach all of them. With love, always.”

For those wondering, the term transmasculine non-binary refers to a person assigned female at birth (AFAB) who identifies outside the male-female binary while aligning with masculine aspects of gender, such as presentation or identity, without fully identifying as a man. In a fan exchange after their coming out, Cocona mentioned that they prefer to go by he/him and they/them pronouns.

Many idols and celebrities have reacted to Cocona’s coming out, showering them with love and support. The stars who commented include KATSEYE’s Megan and Sophia, soloists AleXa (알렉사) and Holland (홀랜드), and JUSTB Bain (저스트비 배인). Simon also shared a message, writing, “I will continue to provide sincere support so that each member is respected not just as an ‘artist’, but as a human being, able to truly love their own life.”

We extend our congratulations to Cocona on their coming out, and we’re proud to see them embracing who they truly are. May their courage also inspire their fans to live their truth. Read Cocona full message here:
