Plagiarism is a serious issue in the creative industry, so it’s obvious that no artist wants to be accused of copying. Recently, Malaysian band Insomniacks faced plagiarism claims for their latest music video, sparking heated debate online.

Over the weekend, the band released the music video for “Bersuara”, their new single featuring rapper Yonnyboii. However, shortly after the release, fans noticed some similarities between their music video and the music video for Xdinary Heroes’ (엑스디너리 히어로즈) “Beautiful Life”, which came out in April 2025. Villains (Xdinary Heroes’ fans) even compiled all the similar scenes between the two music videos, prompting accusations of plagiarism.

Insomniack members Iqie and Iskandar would also acknowledge the similarities between the two music videos, immediately apologising for the oversight. While Iqie noted that he had never seen the “Beautiful Life” music video before the plagiarism claims, he and his band members said they would take accountability and rectify the situation. On 8th March 2026 (Sunday), Insomniacks would issue an official statement on the situation.

In the statement, the band once again apologised for unknowingly plagiarising Xdinary Heroes. They explained that the production team in charge of the music video had used the “Beautiful Life” music video as a reference. However, the band members themselves were unaware of the overwhelming number of similar scenes, likely due to their lack of knowledge of the source material. Insomniacks also noted that they never intended to copy Xdinary Heroes’ music video.

However, the band said they’ll take full responsibility for the issue. They have since removed the “Bersuara” music video from all their official platforms. Insomniacks also said they will review their internal production and approval processes to ensure this mistake won’t happen again. Fans applauded the band for acknowledging their mistake, but noted that the production team should also assume responsibility.

While Insomniacks never intended to copy another band’s work, it’s good that they’re taking the claims seriously and are showing an effort to make this right. Hopefully, the band won’t let this issue happen again.
