Fans were dumbfounded after JYP Entertainment announced that Gun-il (건일) is leaving Xdinary Heroes (엑스디너리 히어로즈). Following his departure, the drummer and now-former-leader of the band shared a letter explaining the sudden move.
On 13th August 2026 (Thursday), JYP Entertainment announced that Gun-il will withdraw from his band and leave the company. According to the statement, the decision was made following recent allegations against him. Earlier this week, a woman who claimed to have dated the 28-year-old shared an audio clip of someone believed to be Gun-il making negative comments about his fans.
After a discussion on the matter, JYP Entertainment and the band member agreed to terminate his exclusive contract. Moving forward, Xdinary Heroes will continue as a five-member group. Given Gun-il’s position in the band as the leader and drummer, his departure shocked fans. Many of them argued that the decision to terminate his contract felt rushed, noting that the company had posted his teaser photos just hours before.
Following the announcement, Gun-il took to the Bubble fan messaging app to address the situation. In his message, the star apologised to the fans for the recent issue and his sudden departure. He added that he wanted to remain in the group but had no choice but to accept the company’s decision. The message continues, with Gun-il admitting to the recent allegations and providing his side of the story.
According to Gun-il, the woman who leaked the audio was someone he dated for two weeks. The star said that at the time he was mentally exhausted due to malicious comments and false rumours about him. He also said that he was growing frustrated at the behaviour of sasaengs who have been stalking him and his group. At one point, sasaengs even broke into Xdinary Heroes’ dorm and planted a tracking device on his personal vehicle.
As such, Gun-il said he grew resentful towards sasaeng fans and thus vented about his frustrations towards his then-girlfriend. He also said he wasn’t aware the conversation was recorded and would later be made public. While Gun-il admitted his fault in the situation, he clarified that his comments were not directed towards Villains (Xdinary Heroes’ fans) as a whole, but only towards the sasaengs who harassed the band.
Gun-il ended his message, once again apologising to the fans while thanking them for their love and support throughout the years. He also spoke about his now-former-bandmates, asking fans to continue supporting them. While Gun-il expressed regret about leaving the band, he said he would continue to cheer them on and support them as they achieve their dreams.
Given the circumstances of his departure, it’s understandable that fans are devastated. Nevertheless, we wish Gun-il and Xdinary Heroes all the best in their respective futures.
