South Korean singer BoA (보아) is undoubtably one of the country’s most successful solo acts, often cited as inspiration for many K-pop stars. After 25 years in the business, the singer is officially parting ways with her agency, SM Entertainment.
On 12th January 2026 (Monday), SM Entertainment announced that BoA won’t renew her exclusive contract with the label, marking the end of their 25-year partnership. The statement writes, ”After extensive and in-depth discussions with BoA, we have agreed to conclude our 25-year journey together as of 31st December 2025.”

The statement continues with a brief highlight of BoA’s career, adding, “For 25 years, BoA has been, without question, the pride, joy, and symbol of SM.” The post continues, “Although our exclusive contract is coming to an end, we will continue to support BoA as she fully demonstrates her capabilities in the new activities and challenges ahead, and we hope she will shine even brighter as the ‘Star of Asia’.”
BoA debuted under SM Entertainment in 2000 at the age of 13, subsequently finding success in Korea and overseas, particularly in Japan. The 39-year-old personally addressed her departure from her long-time label in an Instagram post, writing, “Having given and received without holding back, I leave without regrets.”

Boa also expressed gratitude towards SM Entertainment for her time under the label, adding that she will continue to support them in the future. Before leaving the agency, the singer released her 11th studio album, “Crazier”. She was also part of the company’s board of directors and the executive producer of NCT Wish.
SM Entertainment also released a special tribute video titled “You still our No.1 BoA” to commemorate her 25-year tenure with the company. We wish BoA all the best as she navigates this new journey in her career. Watch the tribute video below:
