After a long wait, disgraced South Korean actor Kim Soohyun (김수현) finally made his first public appearance since news of his scandal involving late actress Kim Saeron (김새론) broke in early March. However, his press conference was met with even more backlash than before.
On 31st March 2025 (Monday), the actor held a press conference in front of news outlets to address the recent issue surrounding him and the late Kim Saeron. During the 40-minute press conference, Kim Soohyun touched on several topics, including allegations of him having sexual relations with the late actress while she was underage.

The “Queen Of Tears” star admitted to dating the late actress but denied that the relationship happened while Kim Saeron was underage. He also clarified why he initially denied dating the late star, arguing that it was to protect his production team at the time and his company. Kim Soohyun also denounced other claims, images and videos from GaroSero, the YouTube channel that Kim Saeron’s family have worked with to publicise all the allegations.
Netizens have since reacted to the press conference – but unfortunately for the actor, most of the comments voiced outrage. Kim Soohyun’s reactions during the press conference, notably his crying face, also prompted memes and jokes. Others also pointed out that the 37-year-old used a script when addressing the public. There are also claims that the script was AI-generated, causing more backlash.
Additionally, GaroSero revealed more “evidence” against the actor after his press conference. The new video was allegedly taken by Kim Saeron in 2018. The YouTube channel also disclosed the video’s metadata, indicating the video as recorded when the late star was 17. The new information and press conference led to increased scrutiny of Kim Soohyun.

The recent issue also brought up a petition to revise South Korean law. According to reports, over 20,000 people have signed a petition requesting the country raise the age of statutory rape of minors from 16 to 19. The “Kim Soohyun Prevention Act” proposed revision also calls for harsher punishment for statutory rape of a minor. When the allegations towards Kim Soohyun first surfaced, many noted that the actor could evade punishment with the current laws.
It appears the end of this issue is still far from sight – but what are your thoughts on this?
