South Korea’s entertainment industry has lost one of its most prominent and influential stars. Veteran actor Lee Soonjae (이순재) passed away earlier today at the age of 91.
His agency SG Way Entertainment announced the devastating news, revealing that the actor passed away on the dawn of 25th November 2025 (Tuesday). His agency didn’t share the cause of death, but it’s believed Lee Soonjae passed away due to natural causes. The funeral parlour had not been set up yet, as of writing.

Lee Soonjae was one of the oldest active actors in Korea and had been a prominent part of Korea’s broadcasting history for decades. He made his debut in 1960 as part of the first class of actors recruited by KBS. During his lifetime, he has appeared in over 100 projects in film, television and theatre. His notable works include “High Kick!” and “Again My Life”
In the past year, Lee Soonjae had halted activities due to health issues. In 2024, he participated in the theatre performance of “Waiting for Godot” and starred in the television drama “Dog Knows Everything”. The drama even earned him the Grand Prize award at the 2024 KBS Drama Awards, making him the oldest recipient ever at the ceremony.

Many celebrities have since shared tributes to the late actor, remembering his work and contributions to the entertainment industry. Among the stars who paid tribute to Lee Soonjae are comedian Kim Youngchul (김영철), model-turned-actor Bae Jungnam (배정남), former AOA member Kwon Mina (권민아) and Girls’ Generation (소녀시대) leader Taeyeon (태연).
