A new year marks a new beginnings – and this applies to our ‘lewks’. Last year, we witnessed – and were a part of – a slew of beauty and grooming trends that ruled and rocked 2022. But with the popularity of Euphoria makeup starting to dwindle, and the trend in minimal foundation taking its course, it’s safe to say that we have a few predictions of brand new beauty trends that’ll shape 2023. Of course, we could never forget our men, because last year’s grooming trends were poppin’ too! So, below are our top predictions of what 2023 makeup and grooming trends will be.
No Foundation
Minimal use of foundation was embraced by the beauty community all throughout 2022. With colour-changing cream like Dr Jart’s Cicapair Tiger Grass Color Correcting Treatment, to tinted-balm-like Jones Road Beauty’s What The Foundation, minimal foundation is the key to achieving that glowing glass-like skin. However, it seems like this year, the beauty community is completely saying “NO” to foundation. Embracing your natural complexion seems like the ultimate makeup trend this year – which means skincare, skincare and more skincare! Plus, showing love to your skin means showing endless love to yourself – so, throw away that foundation!
Glossy Lips
Glossy lips have always been IN, but with the face mask being mandatory until recently, lip glosses weren’t really practical. However, thankfully, masks aren’t required anymore (let’s hope it stays that way), so pull out those lip glosses and go to town! Glossy lips look so good with any makeup look, whether you wish to go bare faced and have your lips looking ultra juicy, or have a full face of makeup with your shiny lips being the centerpiece. You can never go wrong with pairing your makeup look with glossy a** lips!
Kohl Eyeliner
Kohl eyeliner seems to be making a name in MakeupTok, with many beauty aficionados having their curiosity piqued over the product. We’re pretty sure you’re familiar with kohl eyeliner, but just in case you aren’t: kohl eyeliner originated from the Middle East, with many Middle Easterners sporting smoky black eyes regardless of gender. Apparently, kohl eyeliner has a softer composition, making it extremely easy for you to achieve that dark, smoky-eye look. Which means you don’t have to go through the hassle of continuously blending with your gel or pencil eyeliner, because kohl eyeliner does the job for you.

For our men out there – grooming may be a bit of a hassle. Which is why this year’s trend is calling for chopped-off hair! Buzz all that hair away to make yourself look ultra-masculine. And now, grooming is a breeze, because you wouldn’t need to put on mousse, gel and pomade. Once you’re all dressed up and looking snazzy, you’re basically ready to go!
Manicure & Pedicure
Crusty nails have got to go this 2023. We don’t want to see any dirt, grime or dead skin cells under those nails, boys! Perfectly-trimmed and properly taken care of nails are super attractive, believe it or not. It gets the girlies wild, trust us. It makes your nails and hands look super clean, and will definitely make people think that you take the time to take care of yourself. Bring a friend or your partner along for your mani & pedi session, for a fun time.
Waxing
We get it, waxing is scary and very painful – but hear us out! We’re not saying that you should wax the entirety of your body. All we’re saying is that maybe you should try it out. Whether it’s your chest, under arm, some manscaping or your entire body – it’s good to try and rid yourself of the hairs that have stayed around longer than they should have. Plus, regardless of how much you try to shave, you won’t reach every nook and cranny. So, book your next waxing appointment to get a clean start this 2023!
