It seems like we might be seeing Tom Holland as Spider-Man aka Peter Parker for a long, long time.
The British actor recently told Empire magazine that he wants to play the web-slinging superhero for the next 20 years. “Peter Parker is a character we see (in the comic books) as a 15-year-old boy and then as a 35-year-old man,” he said.
Apparently, he has already pitched the plan to the film’s executives. He explained, “So I have an idea of what I’d like to do, and I’ve pitched it and it’s already been taken into the boardroom. It would be really cool if it pans out, because it means I would be Spider-Man for a very long time.”
Holland first appeared as Spider-Man in last year’s “Captain America: Civil War” and his portrayal of the Marvel hero was very well-received. So if the box office for “Spider-Man: Homecoming” does well, we don’t see why Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures wouldn’t want him to continue the franchise.
Assuming that all goes well with the studios, the 20-year-old would be following the footsteps of Robert Downey Jr. and Clark Gregg. As Comic Book points out, the 2 actors have been playing their respective Marvel roles of Tony Stark aka Iron Man and S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Phil Coulson for a decade now.
“Spider-Man: Homecoming” follows high school student Peter Parker after the events of “Captain America: Civil War”. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, he returns home to live with his Aunt May (played by Marisa Tomei). Under the watchful eye of mentor Tony Stark, Parker starts to embrace his newfound identity as Spider-Man.
He also tries to return to his normal daily routine but is distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just a friendly neighbourhood superhero. Parker must soon put his powers to the test when the evil Vulture (played by Michael Keaton) emerges to threaten everything that he holds dear.
Directed by Jon Watts, the highly-anticipated film is expected to swing into theatres on 7th July 2017.
