The Exchange 106 Vs Merdeka 118: Netizens Say Both Lose Out To KLCC

The Exchange TRX made it’s debut on 29th November and since then, it’s made quite a stir! From the second-day blackout, to misuse of its rooftop playground, and a comparison of its toilets, there’s been plenty of buzz surrounding the new mall.

However, not everyone is taken with the new building, or rather, the one attached to it; The Exchange 106. As it turns out, some netizens have been judging the building for its looks. In fact, many are of the opinion that the Merdeka 118 building looks better!

“Compared to TRX, I think 118 looks better,” one netizen recently boldly opiniated. “TRX looks boring, 118 got character.” The nonchalant tweet has spurred plenty of others to share their thoughts on the two buildings and of course, their jokes about the two towers.

“Yup,” one responded. “I prefer this (Merdeka 118) design than TRX’s.” Another said: “TRX looks like a pencil with a blunt eraser.” One netizen opined that The Exchange 106 looks like a cheese grater and another claimed the building looked like it was designed by a primary school student, while the Merdeka 118 building looked like it was designed by an architect.

However, some claimed whichever building it was, it looked “ugly”. “TRX looks like a fancy but impractical non-recyclable bottle of some overpriced flavoured water sold by a startup company that also sells EO scams. 118 wants to be everything when it is nothing but slanted mirrors and if you look carefully, you can see all the potholes from across the city,” one stated.

Several added items the buildings reminded them of, comparing both towers to a vape and an 80s handphone, walkie-talkie and a cheap perfume bottle. Or as someone bluntly summarised it: “Both are an eyesore.” A few others claimed that it didn’t matter how the buildings looked like, they still got confused between the two.

Well, in a show of Malaysian solidarity, many more claimed neither building could hold a candle to our beloved Petronas Twin Towers. “Whatever it is, neither can beat (the Twin Towers) at night,” one said. And, as several others pointed out: “Both towers aren’t memorable. Tourists still prefer KLCC, more unique.”

Well, despite the supposedly negative sentiments, there’s no denying that The Exchange 106, has drawn quite a crowd. What do you guys think? Does the Merdeka 118 looks better than The Exchange 106? Or is KLCC still maintaining its status as the favourite?
