It’s no secret that Malaysians are spending a fortune on skincare products in an effort to maintain their looks as they grow older. Though, there apparently is another way to stay looking youthful, and it’s free!

The Public Health Malaysia Facebook page explained how getting proper sleep helps your skin to remain healthy, from the inside.

“Many people are willing to buy expensive serums, night creams, facial treatments and skin supplements. Because, we see dull skin, acne and puffy eyes and feel our faces look old. But, strangely, when we only sleep for 5 hours a day, we consider it normal,”

“In fact, sleep is the most basic ‘skincare’ that people have ignored. During sleep, the body is repairing cells, controlling stress hormones, stabilising emotions and helping skin to recover from daily damage.”

They shared how not getting enough sleep can cause unwanted effects including an increase in cortisol, skin becoming more prone to inflammation, eyes looking tired, appetite getting disrupted and the body getting tired quickly even after just waking up in the morning.

You skin requires help from the inside too!

Public Health Malaysia went on to urge the public to avoid ‘generously’ damaging our body at night while spending lavishly on skincare products.

“Skincare can help from the outside. Sleep helps from the inside,”

“Sometimes, the glow we’re looking for isn’t in a little bottle on our vanity tables. It starts with one simple decision at night: putting down your phone, turning off the lights and giving our body a chance to rest,” they added.
